How Important Is It to Switch Wavelengths to Stimulate Flowering?

The real key to switching your plants from veg growth to the flowering stage is in the amount of daily light they receive. Once you gradually reduce the amount of daily light, from 16 to 12 hours or less, the plants will switch to flowering mode. At this point, emphasizing redder spectrum helps them do that job even better.

What Are The Most Effective Grow Lights?

In terms of the amount of light produced per Watt of input power, both LEDs and HO T5 lamps rule the roost. Each puts out up to 100W/lumen. However, they are not equal in terms of the wavelengths they produce. Though HO T5 lamps are often listed as “full-spectrum,” this does not mean their spectral efficiency is necessarily equal to LEDs whose lumens may be concentrated in the critical PAR wavelengths.

My New LED Grow Light Seems to Have Unlit LEDs

Many LED grow lights contain a mix of LEDs that emit different wavelengths, some of which are not in the visible spectrum. IR and UV LEDs may appear to be unlit, but are probably OK. Also, it is possible that some LEDs are turned off if the fixture has a veg/bloom switch.
